Siri Reborn!!! 8D

[banner: heechul_oppa]

Hello, and welcome to my LJ. This is its "second life", as I've recently given it a kind of level up.

If you want the short and sweet about me, I'm a klutzy but happy girly-girl in my twenties and I write as a hobby. (Someday, I just may have something in my profile that is substantial enough to tell you about me. Someday.)

Siri's Drama Ranking
Since I watch quite a lot of dramas I thought it'd be good to keep track of what I thought of them, in brief. It wasn't easy ranking them, of course, since I didn't categorize them into genres. I basically judged it on the overall feel I got after completing it and how much I enjoyed watching it. This makes it a little complicated, since there are some I totally enjoyed but are basically not great dramas at all, while there are some I didn't enjoy but are technically quite good. So you can call this a very loose list.

Oh, the joys of having an 'opinion' tag...!

Best ones I really enjoyed:

Ryusei no Kizuna
Nobuta wo Produce
Strawberry On the Shortcake
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e
Ninkyo Helper
Innocent Love
Atashinchi no Danshi

Short version: I no longer have a job and at the end of August we're moving to the East Coast for a stint. We'll see how it goes. In fandom news, yes, I am back.

Again, I'm really sorry for the disappearance--especially to Ao no Michi, teamsweetpower, and heat_up_je. I did check my mail every now and then, to see if there was anything pressing, but I did little else in the storm, and maybe I should have. I'll be trying to catch up over the next few days.

Writer's Block: Bad trip.

What was your worst travel experience ever, and why?

I've traveled a lot, having been tossed back and forth between divorced parents (of different nationalities), and now for work, but in general international flights are not a problem. Sure, travel can take some 24 hours door-to-door, but for the most part I don't mind it. It's local flights I can't stand. This is particularly within the US. I never went much for planes within the UK (it's called a train; up to now I am pretty astounded at the lack of development with American train and bus systems) so having to take a plane to a place within the same country was always a pain to me.

The usual problems--food is crappy, facilities not well cared for, amenities the barest minimum possible to cut down precious costs. However, that isn't really my problem. My problem is always the flight attendants. Many (not all; I've met some lovely flight attendants a couple of times on a local flight) just have this attitude, and often it breaches common politeness. When I ask for help or when I have a request, it's not a lot of skin scraped off if you refuse. But to refuse in a way that makes it sound as though I demanded you to build Rome in a day, jeezus. There's no need to get prissy. I just wanted some water.

Once you get over the fact that it's Narimiya shoved back into high school (there's a good six years between him and Naka Riisa, which isn't too bad, but he's almost ten years older than Hongo Kanata... and all three of them are supposed to be classmates), it's actually pretty entertaining.

Also, I don't think I need to say this, but Naka Riisa is awesome. This drama won't be the high point of her career or anything, and I don't even know how much recognition this sort of thing will give her, but I can tell you that she is awesome. She really makes it for me.

Shinzanmono 1 [subbed], Sunao ni Narenakute 2&3

Thoughts and a recent recap. It's nice to be on active drama watch again though.

Shinzanmono 1 (subbed)

Many of my guesses were right, but a lot of fine details are kind of missed when I watch it raw, so I'm basically sitting through this subbed from now on. Apart from that, my stand is somewhat the same--hasn't been mind-bogglingly awesome yet, but I rather enjoy having Abe Hiroshi onscreen. Plus, Meisa and the rest of the cast is luff. ♥ (And the SP geek in me compels the mentioning of Ruka in this episode. She plays an extra, a shopkeep, but in the same scene as both Meisa and Junpei and I thought this was adorable. Remember Akai Ito? Where she played Junpei's character as a little boy?)

As a side note, it seems the second time around watching this has made me feel that the family was so charming. On the surface it's a typical let's-not-be-nuclear side family--a girl raised by her grandparents, and who has particular closeness to her grandmother as a surrogate mother--but I don't know what came over me. I just really took a liking to them. I've always preferred that Anne focused on her modeling career (because unlike other young model-dash-talents, she's actually got genuine mode as a supermodel, and she'd be staying out of her very-famous father's territory if she did) but this is just a one episode guesting that I enjoyed. The grandma was lovely, so not the staple feeble grandmother often found in these things. And the grandfather was adorable, how he was so demure in comparison and he had the cutest smile ever. ♥ And this is irrelevant, but I thought they had pretty names too. Anne's character was called Naho and the grandfather was Fumitaka.

Okay, I'll stop my useless gushing now.

Sunao ni Narenakute 2&3

It's a good thing this only shows once a week. S'all I'm sayin'.

Next time I might try to talk about the other characters. But by then I may be distracted by other drama.

I'm becoming more and more impressed with Meisa's drama career. Lately the calibre has been high. Supporting, it's true, but she's pretty good at supporting roles. She kind of reminds me of Oguri Shun in that sense. She may end up like him, actually. I don't know her preferences but I get the same vibe--I know Shun actually prefers supporting roles though he doesn't lack starring roles at all.

I'm looking forward to more of Mukai's role.

In sum, I'm going to have a lot of issues with this drama's issues, I know, but I'm probably still going to watch it. On the dot. Because I am sad like that.

Just a quick post to say...

Thank you to everyone who sent me well wishes. ^^ I think this is the first time I've gotten this many. I've been on LJ for a long time but I guess I only recently got very active. I was still surprised that several people remembered/found out somehow about my birthday.

Actually, even people at work somehow got wind of the fact, so all around it's been a very pleasant birthday. I had to be good because I still had work today, but come the weekend I will celebrate properly. ♥

Anyway--to look forward to from me this week:

✂ Review of that twitter drama. YES I WATCHED IT and I think I will continue to, but wait for it.
✂ Maybe review of Shinzanmono. I still haven't seen it!
✂ Continue to work on heat_up and teamsweetpower in earnest.

In fact--teamsweetpower membership is now open! So fans of Maki and Meisa's agency do flock over and avail of community stuff. There's lots. :D

twitter, 3 am calls from overseas, and the real reason I posted

I seem to have allowed some dead air into my LJ once again. Part of the blame goes to my twitter, because now I can just post all my nonsense without thinking about form. It's a lock, but feel free to add. I pretty much just tweet about fandom anyway--there's only the occasional splash of RL. Like how I got a long distance call this morning at THREE AM from a DRUNK FRIEND. Nevermind that I'm usually up. She just had to call on the night I go to bed like a good girl.

Still, I think it's fair to dedicate a short post to what has been occupying a good portion of the percentage of my brain I devote to J-fandom. Broadly, it's Maki + Arashi! It's hard not to, because as of now she's confirmed to have something done with 3/5 of Arashi members--Tokujo Kabachi with Sho, Wagaya no Rekishi with Jun, and Ooku with Nino. Plus, Ohno cameos on Kabachi.

But, for better or for worse, my preoccupation really is becoming Sho. Long and short is I am in serious desiring Sho/Maki mode.

I've always liked Sho best out of Arashi, but I only really got into Arashi within the last couple of years. I kind of feel like one of the staff-san, where I watched some of Arashi's growth and so I'm fond of them, only I'm also subject to fangirl weaknesses and I enjoy their interactions as entertainment as much as the next fan. But anyway, it's only really recently that my like of Sho has been spiked again.

I mean, how could you not like him? He's the forerunner for higher education in JE, he raps and has a job as a newscaster, his English is better than he lets on, and for all his princely manners and professionalism he still has a very special brand of Sho fail. And I know it's been said again and again how smart he is, but what it is to me is that (from what I can get when he answers questions on shows and such) he's very thoughtful and considerate.

(Come to think of it, apart from the showing of his nipples on late night TV, he'd be the ideal Japanese husband. He works hard, makes steady income, will make time for family, and heck, if I remember correctly he even comes from a well-off family; and then, if we're applying to Maki, he's quite a few years older, which actually sometimes tends to be ideal to Japanese women, though I don't know what Maki herself says.)

So, if it's Sho, I wholeheartedly approve. Obviously, realistically speaking, the chances are pretty low...

...which is why I appeal to fandom in the first place! Fic is a gateway to fantasy land, after all.

So anyway, this is my random ramble on my current high. Sho/Maki anyone? Please?

I'm laying out bait for plot bunnies, because I know I need to get something out of this pairing soon, even if I have to write it myself.

By the way, make sure to check out je_whiteday! I did in fact get my request, so we know there's one other Sho/Maki fic out there. :)

everytime siri writes fic, the angels either sing or cry

From the ever vital calledinvain:

The first five people to comment in this post get to request that I write a drabble (or draw a doodle) of any pairing/character of their choosing. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.

I'm trying to get back into writing. :) Oh, er--I'm gonna ask that you at least try to request characters I know? Because I don't want to end up serving you butchered characterizations.

PS: For the curious, this is what I got in return for posting this meme.
